Launch of this year’s Ad Gefrin photo competition
While many will still be harbouring disappointment about the cancellation of the Glendale Show, a call to capture the community’s spirit will seek to keep celebrating the valley’s famous agricultural heritage. The details of the photo competition launched for a second year encourages anyone with an eye for composition to get involved and submit entries taken in and around Glendale from the 1st of September.
The vision to open the Ad Gefrin Distillery and visitor experience in Wooler is at the heart of this initiative to showcase the Glendale community. It hopes to capture unique and imaginative perspectives of rural work and farming life for both national and international audiences.
The busy and bustling daily routines that local people are familiar with means there is still plenty going on and lots of potential photographic subjects in this famous Northumberland valley.
This is an opportunity for everyone young and old to use their imagination and test their camera skills. After the success of last year’s competition and the huge number of high-quality entries, Ad Gefrin has decided to keep the same popular themes to give everyone the chance to have another click of the shutter!
The competition entitled “A Life in a Day of Glendale” will focus on the best shots that celebrate local life and the stunning landscapes in the area based on two categories.

Entrants can submit up to three photos, which will be accepted on the basis they were taken in Glendale itself. The images can be in colour or black and white, and can be submitted via the website at www.adgefrindistillery.co.uk/photography from the 1st of September, where full terms and conditions will be made available. The deadline for entries is Friday 18th December 2020.
Eileen Ferguson, whose family has owned the Ad Gefrin site for nearly 100 years, commented on the 2020 installment of the photo competition:
“Last year’s competition was such a success, and we are really keen to maintain the energy and enthusiasm it inspired. Never more so now that the Glendale Show, which is such a high point in the year, has sadly had to be cancelled. Although this was a necessary decision to safeguard our community, it will be a real loss, so we hope the competition gives us all another opportunity to celebrate the personality and huge spirit that makes Glendale what it is. We are looking forward to receiving beautiful entries that will show the valley and its people at their best, and hopefully the final images will go some way to lift the spirits after a tough 6-months.”
The overall winner will be voted for by the public using social media, after the judging panel, made up of the Ad Gefrin team and guest professional photographers, has selected the winner of each category. Each category winner will receive £50, and the overall winner will receive a further £100 prize.
